Goats Galore!

We started out with four Boer meat goats about five years ago. We have found that goats have more personality than most people. They are always curious and love to be the center of attention. Their curiosity has been known to get them in trouble. Since then, we have added seven more breeding females. Each year, our goal is to produce around 22 healthy, happy kids. We are very attached to the kids and each one has a name. We’ve even named some of the girls after friends and family. That can be confusing especially when we announce that one of them has babies!

Our Buck (male goat) is named Lucky and that he is! He has done a wonderful job this year. We breed the girls in October and the gestation period is five months. We always look forward to “baby time” each Spring. Within a few days after they are born, the babies are running and jumping sideways. It looks as if they have springs on their feet. They grow until late Fall or early Winter and then they are sold to some of the best chefs in St. Louis to create artisan meals. They are usually about 70 lbs when they go to market.
